Portrait of John F. Farnsworth, c. 1868
Oil on Canvas
20 in. x 30 in.
This year, the St. Charles History Museum was gifted a stunning oil portrait of General, Congressman, and historical figure John Farnsworth (1820-1897). This portrait is the latest donation given to the St. Charles History Museum by the Farnsworth family, who also generously donated John Farnsworth’s congressional desk and chair.
Through his service and leadership, John Farnsworth is by far, one of the most influential historical figures to hail from St. Charles. A personal friend to Abraham Lincoln, 7-term U.S. Representative, and Civil War General of the 8th and 17th Illinois Calvary at Camp Kane, Farnsworth’s legacy has an indisputable place in St. Charles and national history.
The original portrait has been entrusted to Baumgartner Fine Art Restoration to be revitalized, as it has incurred rips, tears, and dirt buildup over the years and the Museum is looking for donations to contribute to the restoration costs. We welcome all support in our mission to restore this portrait to its former glory!
